I searched hard for a place to fix my laptop. I almost ended up going to bestbuy but the price was outrageous. A friend in DC actually told me about this this computer repair shop off of Duke Road. It offered friendly, comprehensive, and efficient service. They did a diagnostic test to see what the problem was. I had a virus that infected my laptop. I am a bit computer illiterate, but the staff was informative and professional. After comparing prices, theirs was the best. After they fixed the laptop, they walked me through everything they restored. It was a positive experience.

I visited OnCall 25/8 based on the reviews I had read online. The majority of the reviews were favorable with the always disgruntled few. This can’t be helped since a business is not always going to be able to please everyone. Nevertheless, these few disfavorable reviews are just as important in trying to get a “big picture” of the business. My story begins with having spent 12.5 hours on the phone over a span of 4 days with the Microsoft technicians in India. Obviously, although the technicians were courteous and tried to do their best in resolving the issue of my computer running exceptionally slowly, some progress was definitely made but not enough to have resolved the issue completely. At this point, I thought it was to my advantage to seek help locally. Hence, the contact of OnCall 25/8 Computer Repair. I explained my situation to Steve. I paid a $50 diagnostic fee to have my computer checked. This $50 fee does go toward repair costs if you choose to have your computer repaired at OnCall 25/8. After 48 hours, I was contacted and the details of my computer problem (virus AND hardware) was explained. I was quoted a repair cost of $419. My computer is custom-made and approximately 5 years old. I was extremely reluctant to proceed with the repair. However, I really needed the 1.2 million files stored on my computer. I did not want to lose any of the files. Steve and his crew saved the day for me! Granted, I did loose a few applications, but this was explained before I agreed to have the repair done. I will admit that I paid more money that I expected. However, OnCall saved all of my files. Not 99%, all of my files. I am soooo pleased. On the basis of my experience, I would highly recommend this business to all of you readers of this review. It was money well-spent. I am one of those so-called “happy campers” with the service I received at OnCall 25/8.

Our aging Dell machine had serious problems — I am not savvy enough to even explain them cogently. Suffice it to say that I was relieved to encounter the non-nonsense professionalism of these young folks. Their open-work area and team spirit were reassuring from the start. There’s a certain drive to get things done; it’s not a mickey mouse operation. I like that — and I got back a working computer. Bill Gribbin

When I was blocked out of a program on my company’s intranet, 25/8 worked with me and my corporation’s tech to determine the issue and I was able to get my work done on time. Thank you for doing the work while I waited so I could get back to work!

came to know these guys just passing by their store which is located along duke street. my computer was broken, so i came to their store. they already told me to leave it there and gave them after 24 hours. after wards they already knew whats wrong with it. it is my first time to get to know the kind of job they were doing, and i’m pretty confident that they knew what they were doing. exactly what i expected, they explained everything with regards to my computer. so right now i’m satisfied how my computer works, faster than ever.

theses guys really know their stuff. courteous from the front desk; to the phone call to paying the bill. explained every repair; the risk / benefit and finally the cost. i have an older machine and they assured me the machine was well worth fixing. they even loaded new softwear that protects my machine and updates automatically. they found some corrupt files and cleaned up my new hard drive. (it’s larger and faster). i’m recommending 25/8 to all the guys at the firehouse.

They came through for me on short notice. I had an Acer laptop that I had bought in England. It failed to turn on from one day to the next. I dropped it off at the 25/8 shop (after having given a week for Best Buy to tell me that they could not fix it). onCALL 25/8 got the parts (a new motherboard) within two days and called me to report the good news. They gave me an opportunity to stress the machine and test all functions before I signed off and paid. In the end, I spent tons less than the cost of a new laptop. I wish I could’ve gotten the same type of support when I first took it to Best Buy.

Nothing but excellent service! Prompt diagnosis, every detail explained and great service throughout! Everyone knew what he or she was talking about and explained it to me so I would understand. I had many questions, and they answered them all with no problems. Each person I spoke to was nothing but nice. Everything was done so fast and no mistakes and the best part of all was that it was within my budget!

i was driving along duke st when i saw their sign, computer repair. when my pc broke, i visit them and brought my pc with me. they told me to leave it there and gave them a call the following day. they told me what was wrong and got it fixed for me. and im pretty confident that they’re knew what they’re doing. they explained everything they fixed and what to do next ifever there’s a problem again. so right now i’m satisfied with my pc’s performance, faster than ever.

It was two days before I had to fly to Japan, when I dropped my laptop and broke the LCD screen. It was a pretty big crisis for me, since I had non-stop meetings in Tokyo that would leave no time to fix the screen once I was in Japan, and being without my computer would have been more than a small problem. OnCall turned out to be real lifesavers. I had only less than a day in DC. I found them through google, and called them the day before I was flying in; they were very accommodating. I was able to have Gateway rush deliver my new LCD to OnCall, who installed it for me very promptly and professionally . My laptop was repaired without any problems or delays. They were truly a pleasure to do business with, and I recommend them highly.

I took my PDA to Radio Shack to get the battery replaced. They were unable to open the compartment and handed me several screw drivers to try and do the job myself. After about 10 minutes of frustration, I left and decided to give 25/8 a try. They were courteous, friendly, and in a matter of minutes had the battery replaced. These guys know what they’re doing and are professional. 25/8 is a well run business that I would recommend to anyone looking for quality computer repair.

I want to commend onCALL for the outstanding service I’ve received from their technicians.
Most recently Larry has responded in a timely manner to my request. He pinpointed the problem in a matter of minutes. He took my computer to their shop and it was serviced within a few days and returned working more efficiently.

I am very pleased with the service I got from Oncall 25/8. They recommended I get a new computer instead of spending a lot of money repairing a unit whose repair costs would have exceeded those of buying a new computer. I bought a machine from Oncall, and have been very satisfied with it. They followed up with excellent warranty service when I had a minor issue playing CDs in iTunes. Overall I’m very satisfied!

I recently had oncall 25/8 install my new mac – they kept in touch with me throughout the day so I knew when they would be arriving and if they were going to be late. They have a very professional, customer service oriented approach to their business. After the mac was set up I had a couple of minor issues and difficulties. My computer was running very slow, but OnCall 25/8 was able to get me fixed up and save me some money because my computer was still under warranty with Dell. Saved me a bundle. After spending a lot of time with Dell, the guys at Oncall were able to get my machine fixed quickly and did exactly what I wanted them to do. Dell was not able to get the issue resolved, but OnCall did. Great job all around. They were very courteous and efficient.

I recently had problems with my computer – norton goback kept freezing up. onCALL 25/8 came to my house and performed a diagnostic, determining the hard drive had failed. They were able to recover 100% of my data – even a semi-obscure application which would have required repurchasing it if it had been lost. They set me up with a new computer and got me up and running in a relatively short period of time – they even provided additional support after I had some issues with my old mouse! Highly recommended!!

Keith did a heckuva job saving the data on my hard disk, and reinstalling data and programs on a new hard drive/upgraded memory on my old Thinkpad T40, thus saving me the cost of buying a new computer when the upgraded T40 would work just as well.
I hung around the shop on Duke waiting for my computer, got great service and was very impressed with the manager’s commitment to quality (observing the manager and technicians dealing with other customers. I highly recommend this shop, particularly as there are so many underqualified folks out there posing as geeks.

I stumbled across this firm the first time while riding down Duke St. in Alexandria…needed help with a power supply on a computer. They found a new one that would work, threw it in the computer, and I was “out the door”. Couldn’t quite believe that I had located a neighborhood place for computers that felt llke my helpful service station mechanic. Months later, I pulled out a 35mm slide scanner that I had purchased a few years ago to prepare a “eulogy” program – and now it wasn’t working. Went thru back-and-forth with Konica/Minolta – took it to the photo shop, who sent it off, and I was told to expect a $186 repair. On the phone, I asked if they had checked the power supply – they did on on the spot, but had no replacement nor alternative to the $186. So I had them send it back to me. With no thought that OnCall25/8 knew anything about these devices, I drove over. Within about 10 minutes they had rummaged around and found a power supply that worked just fine, and I had to insist that I pay them at least something. Walked out less $10 with a working machine and now I can transfer all my old family slides. Thanks, guys – glad you are in the neighborhood.

My cat peed on my boyfriend’s laptop–while it was open, right on the keyboard! He took the laptop to Best Buy, initially. They kept it for 2 weeks, sent it to Kentucky and back, only to tell us they wouldn’t touch it. They wrapped it in a bright plastic bag and labeled it a biohazard.
So I took the laptop to On Call 25/8. I had first called after hours but got a tech on the phone quickly. He kinda chuckled at my situation but promised to help. They were friendly guys, did the diagnostics within 48 hours as promised, and a couple days later the laptop was fully cleaned and fixed. I think their rates were competitive. It may seem a little expensive, but it was a lot of labor and they did a great job!
The laptop is fine and the boyfriend isn’t so mad anymore (though he and the cat are not on great terms…)I recommend On Call 25/8 and would use them again!

I recently used 25/8 to diagnose a problem that had been interfering with our work productivity at the office for weeks. My PC wouldn’t work at all due to a virus that got on my Machine. I was using Comcast.net McAfee free virus protection with the Comcast Broadband Internet sevice that I use provides. Comcast wqs no help they referred me to McAfee which is in their office. McAfee was no help they referred to to HP. HP said my computer was no longer under warranty and for $49.95 I could purchase a 15 day warranty. I told them if I had to pay them that I would call a computer repair service. So I called onCall 25/8 because of my excellent past service that I had with them. I had a technician out the very next day and he discovered that my whole system was taken over by a virus. That was on a Thursday and I called on Saturday like the Technician told me to. MY computer was fixed by Monday like he promised and it was delivered to me on Tuesday. My first encounter with Oncall25/8 was last year and not being a ‘computer savvy’ person needed experienced help so looked through the phone book. I called three company’s and only one returned my call which was 25/8 and an appointment was made for the next day. The tech arrived gave a diagnostic and I accepted he took my computer to the workshop to clean-up viruses and run ant-virus software. I had my computer back with 24 hours the tech offered me a ‘buying time’ which means that should I need help again I had already paid for it.
A couple of days ago I uncounted problems again i.e printer not working and computer very slow I made an appointment and this time two techs arrived…one of which was a trainee…they were both professional, respectful overall very pleasant. They went to work and within under one hour had the whole job done…which included a general clean up of miscellaneous items and up dated my anti-virus program. The fee….nothing, not one cent as I purchased three and half hours on the previous occasion.This leaves me with two and a half hours in credit for any future help that I may need.
Well Done 25/8 the techs are ‘keepers’ and I have already spread the ‘good news’ to colleagues and friends.

I recently had problems with my computer – norton goback kept freezing up. onCALL 25/8 came to my house and performed a diagnostic, determining the hard drive had failed. They were able to recover 100% of my data – even a semi-obscure application which would have required repurchasing it if it had been lost. In life you meet many different people from the first time I entered onCall 25/8 the employees greeted me and made me feel like they appreciated my busy. The laptop I asked them to work on was for my cousin who is financially challenged. I have used OnCall 25/8 twice. They performed their services in a professional, competent and timely manner.
The first instance involved a destroyed USB thumb drive. The actual USB connector had broken off. They re-soldered the hardware and performed the data recovery (100% effective).
The second instance involved a 1 TB external hard drive. This drive was approximately 70% full (700GB) of large video and audio files (Final Cut Pro). The drive malfunctioned and would fail to show its file structure, even thought the drive would mount and register as 70% full. Again, OnCall 25/8 performed a flawless data recovery. Considering the amount of information, the time it took was astounding. Further, they asked me to come down and verify the data before continuing.
I would highly recommend OnCall for any technical assistance you may require.

Oncall was responsive and professional. We recently had difficulty accessing the internet and after I spoke with Comcast I realized that the problem lay in our own equipment. I spoke with Oncall over the phone and they talked me through some items that may have fixed it. Not so this time!
